28 Day Wellness Plan Day 1

Day 1 of my wellness challenge has had so so results.

Pluses:
Woke up feeling excited about starting the program & reaching my goal of taking better care of myself.
Bought a crap load of groceries.
Made a delicious dinner & have leftovers for a meal tomorrow.
Pre-made an additional meal & set out snacks for tomorrow.

Minuses:
Didn't do today's yoga stretches.
Should have eaten more in the morning.
Should have drank more water.
Got a bit grumpy because I was hungry.
Watched tv. (The plan does a media detox too. I may not follow this part... or just reduce my intake instead.)

All & all, good baby steps were made today. Lessons were learned.

Tomorrow I have a good plan in place so it'll be better. Looking forward to making my first smoothie.

In Thanksgiving.

From my Facebook page...

Stephanie June Johnson is thankful for:

1: the joy of sleeping in & the joy of getting up early.
2: the sea & the rivers. the sky & the dirt.
3: the food on her table, the roof over her head & the clothes on her back.
4: laughter & pancakes.
5: that she is healthy enough to move, dance & jump up & down out of sheer joy.
6: her ability to travel to beautiful places.
7: living in a country that elected a president that she trusts & who makes her laugh.
8: those who fight for this country so that she may have all that she is thankful for.
9: music that wakes her up & soothes her soul.
10: beer.

& most of all...

11: the amazing people who have come to surround her in this life. her family. her friends. her coworkers. her clients. *they* are the reason she is...

12: living her dream!!!

Between the Sheets by Imogen Heap

You & me between the sheets
It just doesn't get better than this
The many windswept yellow stickies of my mind
Are the molten emotional front line
I couldn't care less I'm transfixed in this absolute bliss
Sweet sleepless, tumbling night
Oh, and the morning on the your skin & loved up light
Tracing patterns in the maze of your back
Softly, softly the goose bumps like that
And then a kiss...
Maybe another,
And another one

...
*i am in love with this song.*

regina spektor = formidible talent.

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
When they’re starving or freezing or so very poor

No one laughs at God
When the doctor calls after some routine tests
No one’s laughing at God
When it’s gotten real late
And their kid’s not back from the party yet

No one laughs at God
When their airplane start to uncontrollably shake
No one’s laughing at God
When they see the one they love, hand in hand with someone else
And they hope that they’re mistaken

No one laughs at God
When the cops knock on their door
And they say we got some bad news, sir
No one’s laughing at God
When there’s a famine or fire or flood

*Chorus*
But God can be funny
At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke, or
Or when the crazies say He hates us
And they get so red in the head you think they’re ‘bout to choke
God can be funny,
When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus
God can be so hilarious
Ha ha
Ha ha

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
When they’ve lost all they’ve got
And they don’t know what for

No one laughs at God on the day they realize
That the last sight they’ll ever see is a pair of hateful eyes
No one’s laughing at God when they’re saying their goodbyes
But God can be funny
At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke, or
Or when the crazies say He hates us
And they get so red in the head you think they’re ‘bout to choke
God can be funny,
When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus
God can be so hilarious

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one laughing at God in hospital
No one’s laughing at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God when they’re starving or freezing or so very
poor

No one’s laughing at God
No one’s laughing at God
No one’s laughing at God
We’re all laughing with God

IT'S TORI DAY!!!

In honor of what I so lovingly call TORI DAY (any day having to do with a release date of a Tori Amos album or a Tori Amos concert date that I'm attending), I would like to offer up some of my new favorite Tori lyrics. There are many on this new album & as always, she doesn't disappoint. Insightful, controversial, romantic, dirty, intelligent. All these things I love Tori for & more.

. . .

"I give love I give Soon before the sun before the sun begins to rise I know that I I must give so that I I can live"

“Do a dance for me.” Baby it is late still you pour me & a tall one..."

"You better bring your own sun sweet girl. You gotta bring your own sun now don’t you forget — you bring your own sun, just enough for everyone."

"You must let the colors violate the Blackness"

"Shut your mouth I’m spinnin’ it tight down south I’m on raid tie you down cause boy I can save you from that evil faith."

"I’m not dying, sister, take your paws off my ankle straps and my mister"

"Impeccable peccadillo You are off your guard Pussy willow calls there by the church, “don’t go in if you are abnormally attracted to sin”"

"Blueness pales within a flames lust"

"if a feather lined with his words becomes a blade then what, what will it take to make it through another day?"

"You got you a Fast horse darlin’ But all you do is complain it ain’t a maserati"

. . .

I'm sure I will find others... I can't wait.

HALO by KATE HAVNEVIK

Who do you love, when love is gone?
Who do you hunger in this great unknown?
Memories of me will fade soon
& you'll find someone new

See everyone halo bright in beauty
See everyone arrayed for you to try
You're not alone in being alone
Six billion people – one of them's right for you

Who do you mean when you change your tone?
Who do you dream of when you're half asleep with one eye open?
You'll become your life soon
& I won't be in your way

See everyone halo bright in beauty
See everyone arrayed for you to try
You're not alone in being alone
Six billion people - one of them's right for you

Who do you see when you stare into space?
Who do you seek out in cyberspace?

See everyone halo bright in beauty
See everyone arrayed for you to try
You're not alone in being alone
Six billion humans - one of them's right for you

EVOLUTION OF AN APARTMENT GARDEN: PART 1

So when I moved into my back-corner-of-the-building-apartment 3 years ago, I discovered a very neglected but workable space to garden in directly in back.

(I also have a porch area & a fern area but that's a different blog post.) Today I'll focus on the corner & my "plots" that I soon took over & made mine...

This is what the corner looked like when I moved in. A pile of bricks & dirt. Looked like people were using it as a compost pile too.

This is what my "plots" looked like. There are about 5 of them in the back of this building. Some activity has commenced in the other plots since I've lived here. None this year but moi.

Soon after I moved in, I leveled off the place around the stump & made it into one whole box. This picture was taken last year when I got Buddha. He was a welcome addition to my garden & one I'd been wanting since I cleared the space.

Last year in pots I planted 2 kinds of basil, sunflowers & some small succulents.

In the ground I planted an Oak Leaf Hydrangea called Snow Queen (survived & is growing pretty little leaves!), a September Charm Anemone (didn't survive the winter), a Abutilon called Moonchimes (remains to be seen whether this will come back - looks like it's starting) & some ground cover called Golden Japanese Sedum (that survived only to be so thrashed by my recent digging so it's gone.)

The stump in the corner & Buddha had a hard winter...

Going...

Going...

Gone!
